Why do we use conventional orthodontic braces and how do these braces work ?
Orthodontic treatment aims to correct various dental misalignments or teeth positioning anomalies, such as malocclusions, overlaps or misalignments. These issues must be treated before the occurrence of other complications namely those affecting the masticatory apparatus. It is also worth mentioning that misaligned teeth can cause severe aesthetic damage and become a permanent discomfort for the patient.
Braces work by applying gentle and consistent pressure to the teeth over a period of time. They consist of metalic brackets or ceramic brackets that are bonded to the teeth and connected by archwires. The archwires are adjusted periodically to gradually shift the teeth into their desired positions. Additionally, elastic bands or other components may be used to apply additional force to correct specific bite issues. The process of braces treatment is personalized to each patient’s needs, and regular adjustments are required to ensure progress and achieve the desired results.
